Understanding ABE Approval for Electric Scooters in Germany and Austria
In countries like Germany and Austria, certain regulations apply to electric scooters regarding their speed and road use. To be ABE-approved (Allgemeine Betriebserlaubnis), vehicles must meet specific requirements to ensure compliance with local laws.
Why Are Our Scooters Not ABE Approved?
Our electric scooters are designed with advanced features, including the ability to adjust the maximum speed through a mobile app. As a result, these scooters can exceed the speed limit of 25 km/h, which disqualifies them from receiving ABE approval in Germany and Austria. This is due to safety regulations and the legal framework governing the use of electric scooters on public roads in these countries.
Customer Experiences with Gaining ABE Approval
While our scooters are not ABE-approved out of the box, some previous customers in Germany and Austria have successfully obtained approval by:
-
Setting the maximum speed of their scooter to 25 km/h via the mobile app.
-
Bringing the scooter to their local police station or transportation authority for inspection and certification.
Please note that this process is entirely managed by the customer, and outcomes may vary depending on the specific requirements of local authorities.
